Discover Amethyst

Amethyst is a type of crystalline quartz and is considered the most valuable of all quartz varieties. Its natural color can range anywhere from light lilac to deep violet.

Historically, amethyst was kept as a talisman as it was believed to counteract the effects of alcohol. The word amethyst derives from the ancient Greek amethustos, which translates plainly to "not intoxicated."

Because purple was once an expensive and extremely difficult colour to produce, it has long been associated with royalty. British royalty, in particular, was fond of amethyst, and the stone has been featured in many important coronation pieces.
